Although the summer is great, poolside with friends, no school to worry about, the boredom is beginning to strike. This all will change when I vacation in California in a few weeks. I will then experience cool air, the beach, surfing opposed to the radiating Arizona heat and the same old mountain view. Its sad to say.. but I cant wait for summer to be over and start my Junior year of high school! The opportunities to my future will begin √

Here I am, driving home to Tucson from the “Happiest place on earth”, contemplating that very saying. Why call it the happiest place on earth when adult stress over money, time management and kids complain about their sore legs from walking? I think its all about the art. Disney may be considered commercial art since it has become a multi billion dollar company. But behind the money lies the creativity of one man’s imagination. From black and white cartoons to multiple theme parks throughout the country that contain unbelievable contractions. While riding the rides at both Disneyland and California Adventures, I paid attention to all the details put into the rides. The Indiana Jones ride had extraordinary details down to a cob webbed ceiling. My best friends older sister said “why put so much detail into such little things that most people won’t even pay attention to?” I questioned it too then thought about my own designs and how I put details in that others may not catch. I guess it’s about the creative mind we have as artists.

Ever have those days where you overthink everything? Where you break down every aspect of your life in your head, and just ask yourself why? Days like these I try everything to distract myself, I get out of the house and focus on my physical surroundings. As a designer and a dancer, my mind runs on creative thoughts. When I hear a song I like I can picture in my head what the piece would look like on stage. When I see an advertisement or t shirt design I like, I critique in my head and try to understand the concept and what the artist was thinking at the time of designing. Buddha once said, “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate the troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” With the art of design I can live in the present moment, it allows me to forget about the obstacles in life and focus on creativity.
